Attendance Office

Message from the High School Attendance Office

Report of Absence:

  • Call the attendance office (717-506-3661/717-506-3662)  in the morning to report your student absent .
  • Send a note with a reason within 3 days of the absence. Students should give the note to their homeroom teacher. Failure to comply will result in an unexcused absence.

Early Dismissals:

  • Advance notice (recommended.) Students should give early dismissal cards at least 1 day in advance to their homeroom teacher. Doing so will avoid delays in your student's release from class. Students need to pick-up their dismissal pass from the Attendance Office between 7:30-7:50 on the morning of dismissal or before time of dismissal. Please note, the time you enter is the time students are released from class. Allow enough time for your student to meet you...5 minutes is recommended.
  • Same day dismissals. Students need to bring dismissal notes directly to the Attendance Office between 7:30-7:50 in the morning. Parents or guardians, please call the attendance office (717-506-3661/717-506-3662) as early as possible to confirm the time on the note. Calls can be made the night before as the answering machine is always on. Students need to pick-up dismissal passes from the Attendance Office prior to leaving. Please note, the time you enter is the time students are released from class. Allow enough time for your student to meet you...5 minutes is recommended.
  • Students are to sign the clipboard in the Attendance Office before leaving the building. This provides a record for the school.
  • For the dismissal to be excused, provide a note from the appointment.

Tardy to School:

  • All students arriving late are to sign-in at the attendance office with a note. Tardy notes from doctors and professional appointments are always excused. Parent notes are always accepted and reviewed based on criteria set forth by the state and CV.

Picking-up Students:

  • If the procedure above is followed, there is no need to physically come into the school to pick-up your student. However, please arrange a convenient location where you can meet. Students being dismissed during the school day are often picked-up by the flagpole, outside the main office. There is 10 minute parking along the curb for your convenience.
  • PLEASE NOTE: The visitor lot is closed from 7:00 AM until 7:45 AM in the morning, and then again in the afternoon from 2:15 PM to 3:15 PM for buses.

College Visits:

  • Students are allowed 2 college visit days per year. Click here or below to download the form. Students take the “College Visitation Form” with them to the college to be completed by officials of the college, university, or tech school. The form is the excuse for the student. He or she is to return it to their homeroom teacher, as any other absent note.

Educational Trips:

  • Students are allowed 2 educational trips per year, totaling no more than 5 days. The "Educational Trip" form is in the Attendance Office; or click here or below to download the form. Please, have it completed and returned one week before the absence. No trips are excused the last 10 days of school or during state-mandated testing times.
