Beyond School Walls

The initiative of this internship is a corporate partnership between Deloitte and Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Capital Region focusing on providing local high school students an opportunity to receive a first-hand experience in the corporate world. 

Cumberland Valley High School students are matched one-to-one with an employee from Deloitte for the duration of the school year. Students visit their mentor’s workplace on at least a monthly basis to explore career opportunities, develop professional skills, and interact with classmates in a real-world office setting. Topics covered include creating an elevator pitch, networking, preparing a resume, and mock interviews. The program concludes with a student-led project simulation.

Application requires parent permission and student interview. Students apply in the spring of their sophomore year.  Upon successful completion of an interview, they are notified by the end of May if they are selected. Preference will be given to applicants with a strong school attendance record and recommendations from CV Faculty/staff.  The program is a 2 year commitment.

Grade:  This internship opportunity is available to students in grades 11 and 12.


CVSD Data and Applications

During the school year, students will be responsible for assisting with the management of District information systems and data services under the direction of the Database Administrator or the Application Support Administrator. Applicants must have completed CV or CAVTS Computer Science, Computer Hardware or Networking classes with a grade average of a B+. Applicants must also possess previous experience with supporting technology users such as CV Eagle Technology Assistance Club, be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds and have at least two periods in their schedule to work. This position can lead to paid summer employment after graduation from high school. Interested students must submit a resume and cover letter by the end of March to CV's Career Coordinator.  Interviews are conducted in April with students being notified in May if selected. 

Grade: This internship opportunity is available to students in grades 11 and 12.

  • CVSD District Business Office 

    During the school year, a student who has completed Accounting I is eligible for an accounting internship at the District Office. This position consists of posting receipts to the General Ledger System, identifying and gathering fixed asset information for annual audit, reviewing and posting monthly utility bills to spreadsheets, and posting monthly real estate revenues to Master Receipt Log. Interested students should submit a resume by the end of April to CV's Career Coordinator. Interviews are conducted in April with students being notified in May if selected.  Prerequisite:  Accounting I

CVSD Operational Technology

During the school year, students will be responsible for maintaining and supporting computers, peripherals, and networks on a building level and district basis through the direction of the Assistant Director of Technology. Students must have completed CV or CPAVTS Computer Science, Computer Hardware or Networking classes with a grade average of a B+. Students should possess experience with supporting technology users such as working with the CV Eagle Technology Assistance Club, be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds and have at least two periods in their schedule to work. This position can lead to paid summer employment after graduation from high school. Interested students must submit a resume and cover letter by the end of March to CV's Career Coordinator. Interviews are conducted in April with students being notified in May if selected.

CVSD Technology Integration          

During the school year, students will provide instruction, training and resources to staff and students in order to facilitate the integration of technology in the office, classroom and workplace to enhance efficiency under the direction of the Supervisor of Curriculum Instruction and Technology. Students must have completed CV or CPAVTS Computer Science, Computer Hardware or Networking classes with a grade average of a B+. Students should possess experience with supporting technology users such as working with the CV Eagle Technology Assistance Club, be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds and have at least two periods in their schedule to work. This position can lead to paid summer employment after graduation from high school. Interested students must submit a resume and cover letter by the end of March to CV's Career Coordinator. Interviews are conducted in April with students being notified in May if selected.

PennDOT School to Employment (STEP)

PennDOT offers skilled trades, professional/technical/business and/or administrative paid internships based on agency needs. The skill trades include A/D Mechanic, Drafting (CAD), Body Repair, Printing, Surveying and Welding. The Professional/Technical/Business include engineering, IT, Computer Engineering and Human Resources. The Administrative positions include word processing, data entry, records management and reception. Upon notification from PennDOT, applications will be available to students with the appropriate training and education through the CV Career Coordinator. The requirements include completion of the junior year of high school, at least 17 years of age, possess a GPA of at least a B, satisfactory school attendance, be permitted to work in the US and attend a school that offers a co-op/internship program.

Grade: This internship opportunity is available to students in grade 12 when PennDOT notifies School Districts of an opening.

West Shore Free Church

Students will have the opportunity to work with the Accounting Department to utilize accounting skills acquired through the Cumberland Valley High School Accounting I course.

Grade: This internship opportunity is available to students in grades 11 and 12.
