    Human Services Internships


    Aldersgate Preschool

    Students interested in early childcare will have an opportunity to work with preschool teachers and children during the school year. Under the direction of the lead teacher, students will initiate and engage with preschool children through play and verbal interactions; provide support in the classroom schedule and daily routine; offer feedback when the teacher is assessing children for conferences; and follow the rules of the preschool. Students will be responsible for preparing a written lesson plan and teaching a lesson once a month.  Interested students must apply by April 1st.

    Grade: This internship opportunity is available to students in grade 12.

  • Chick-fil-A Hospitality and Leadership

  • This paid internship is a steppingstone to a successful future in the world of business. As a team member, students will work directly for an independent franchise operator to learn all aspects in operating a restaurant while learning important business skills. Students will be responsible for greeting guests, taking orders, handling cash and demonstrating warm hospitality to guests. Interested students, of at least 16 years of age, should obtain an application from CV's Career Coordinator. Interviews will be conducted by Chick-fil-A management and students will be notified in May of acceptance.

Cumberland Valley Elementary Education

Students enrolled in this program will be placed with a teacher at one of Cumberland Valley's eight elementary schools. While working with the classroom teacher, students will learn how to create, implement and modify a lesson plan for a student or group of students. Additionally, students in this program will have the opportunity to work individually and with small groups of students. Aspects of classroom management and other professional responsibilities will be explored. Students will meet with their host teacher and discuss various aspects of the teaching profession. Occasional education workshops may be offered by administrators in the program. 

Grade: This internship opportunity is available to students in grade 12.

Eagle Foundation Marketing and Event Assistant

The responsibilities entail assisting with many tasks to promote and organize two fall events including Harlem Wizards Basketball Fundraiser and the Touch of the Valley online auction.  This position requires a commitment of 2-4 hours per week from the beginning of school through the end of December.  Applications accepted during March for the next school year.

Grade: This internship opportunity is available to students in grade 12.

Junior Leadership Cumberland (JLC)

This program is designed for high school juniors to become familiar with the various elements that form a strong and dynamic community and to help students develop leadership skills.  The sessions focus around leadership, communication, community service, problem solving, government/economic development, a community event, and graduation.  Students work with community and business leaders during the six day-long sessions, which run from 8:30 AM - 2:30 PM once a month from September through March.

Students apply in the spring of their sophomore year and are selected by the Cumberland County Junior Leadership Committee.  Accepted students are notified in June.

Grade: This internship opportunity is available to students in grade 11.

State Representative of the 88th Legislative District 

Students interested in law or government have an opportunity to work with the District Director for the State Representative of the 88th Legislative District.  The duties would entail helping with constituent work, emails, phone calls, event work, data entry and learning the legislative process.  Students apply during March with the CV High School Career Coordinator.

Grade:  This internship opportunity is available to students in grade 12.

  • Tender Years Child Development Center  

    Students interested in early childcare have an opportunity during the school year to work alongside certified childcare providers in a Keystone Starts Facility at Tender Years. Interviews will be conducted by Tender Years and accepted students are notified in May. 

Grade: This internship opportunity is available to students in grade 12.

  • West Shore Free Church - Community Resource Center

    Students will have the opportunity tutor elementary age students, schedule and follow-up.

Grade: This internship opportunity is available to students in grades 11 and 12.

  • West Shore Free Church - Food Services

    Students will worth with food services.  This includes coffee ordering, prep and service; meal prep and serving for special events; inventory and ordering of supplies; learn Serve safe food prep practices; and clean kitchen and equipment.

Grade: This internship opportunity is available to students in grades 11 and 12.

  • West Shore Free Church - Youth Ministry

    Students will have the opportunity to work within the youth ministry to lead small group teams, organize and plan events for 100+ people, manage interactive social media presence, market student ministry events and programs, analyze data and feedback from various student ministry programs, and develop public speaking skills for ministry events.

Grade: This internship opportunity is available to students in grades 11 and 12.
