Act 158 - Details about this State Graduation Requirement

Act 158 of 2018 and Act 6 of 2017 provide alternatives to Pennsylvania’s statewide requirement of attaining proficiency on the three end-of-course Keystone Exams (Algebra I, Literature, and Biology). Effective with the graduating class of 2023, all Pennsylvania students earning a diploma must meet the requirements of one of five pathways that demonstrate their college, career, and community readiness.

Details of the requirements for each pathway can be found by following the Pathways to Graduation menu.

The first way a student can show readiness is by taking and scoring Proficient or better on all three Keystone exams.  If a student does not score Proficient or better on any exam, the district strongly urges them to take the exam again, if time permits.  If a student retests, yet still doesn't meet the criteria for each subject, students and families should investigate alternate pathways specified in the Pathways to Graduation.  Counselors will work with seniors who will utilize Alternate Pathways.
