College in the High School & Dual Enrollment

What is College in the High School?

Cumberland Valley has partnered with Harrisburg Area Community College and Harrisburg University to provide students the opportunity to earn college credits while taking classes at Cumberland Valley.

Some of these courses required placement testing or prerequisites in order for students to enroll.  Please check the high school's Program of Studies to determine the qualification for a particular College in the High School course.

College in the High School (CHS) courses are taught by current CV teachers who have been approved as adjuncts by the applicable post-secondary institution. Students are enrolled as provisional students of the post-secondary institution for the specific purpose of comple
ting CHS courses.

Credit for CHS courses is offered by the post-secondary institution at a significantly reduced tuition rate.

CHS course credits have a high rate of successful transfer to other post-secondary institutions. Students should check with their desired post-secondary institution to determine how these credits will transfer.

Any student who may pursue an athletic scholarship should check with their counselor and/or college(s) of choice for recommendations to participate in these dual credit courses.

What is Dual Enrollment?

Dual Enrollment courses allow students flexibility in building their own academic pathway, engage in high-quality academic experiences, and save thousands of dollars.   This is done through agreements that CV has with various post-secondary institutions for CV students to attend those institutions while still enrolled as a Cumberland Valley High School student.

Dual enrollment courses are taught by post-secondary institution faculty.  These courses can be offered on CVHS's campus or the campus of the post-secondary institution.

Each course earns both college (3 or 4 credits) and high school Credits (1 CV credit per course).

Any student who may pursue an athletic scholarship should check with their counselor and/or college(s) of choice for recommendations to participate in these dual credit courses.

For more information about dual enrollment courses, please contact your student's school counselor.
