Cooperative Education

Cooperative Education is a planned instructional program for juniors and/or seniors only.  It is developed through a signed cooperative training agreement between the school representative, student, parent and employer.  The purpose of the program is to provide juniors and/or seniors with an opportunity to alternate in-school academic and vocational instruction with entry-level paid employment.  The program is for the entire academic year (August-June).  Seasonal as well as temporary employment is not permitted.

This program is for the entire academic year and is worth 3 credits.  Students must work a minimum of 15 hours from Monday-Saturday, beginning shortly after release from school.  Students must work at least 150 school days. They are paid at least minimum wage for Pennsylvania and be covered under the employer's Worker's Compensation.

The Cooperative Education Program is designed to:
1.  Prepare students to develop marketable occupation skills.
2.  Provide occupational training opportunities.
3.  Encourage and develop student attitudes and habits that meet accetpable employment standards.
4.  Provide students with the opportunity for career investigation.

The school does not provide transportation. Students are responsible for their own transportation to and from the worksite.  The employer is not responsible for transportation.

Applications are available through Mrs. Consevage, Career Coordinator, in the Counseling Center.
