Internship Policies

Attendance Policy

The internship student must be in regular attendance at school and at the internship site as determined prior to the internship. Students are to report at least five minutes prior to the start of their internship. Failure to report on time or attend all the sessions could affect the credit and passing of the internship.

If the student does not attend school, they should not attend the internship that day. If the student is unable to report to the internship site, it is the student’s responsibility to notify BOTH the internship host and Career Coordinator before 9 AM (or earlier depending upon the start time of the internship). If the student has an appointment on an internship day, the student must notify the Career Coordinator at least one day prior to the appointment, and provide a doctor's note to the Career Coordinator upon returning to school.

If there are concerns about a student’s attendance, a meeting will be scheduled with the student, internship host, and Career Coordinator. Repeated absences will be discussed and could be grounds for termination of the internship. If the internship is terminated for repeated absences, a failing grade will be entered on the student's transcript.

Please note: Internship hosts may have specific attendance requirements that students are expected to comply with in addition to Cumberland Valley High School's requirements.

Inclement Weather, Holidays and Schedule Changes

In the case of inclement weather, students are expected to be in communication with their internship host and report to their internship based on the decision of the internship host, NOT the school district.

It is the responsibility of the student to communicate with their internship host regarding holidays and reporting to the internship. Students should report based on the expectation of the internship host.

If the daily school schedule is changed due to an assembly, extended homeroom, delay or early dismissal, students are to leave school at their regularly scheduled time in order to report to the internship.

Drop Policy

In order to maintain positive relationships with our internship hosts, and to ensure an internship slot is not taken away from another student, dropping an internship will result in a WF on their transcript and there will not be any credit awarded.
