Applications are accepted until the end of November from seniors for the CNA and EMT internships for 2nd semester of the school year. The CNA and EMT programs provide training for hands on experience, which helps give students a competitive edge for nursing and other college health majors.

CNA:  Through a partnership with Carlisle Regional Medical Center and Harrisburg Area Community College, students, in their senior year, can complete the 120-hour course in preparation for the state’s CNA exam. Students begin the Fall program by exploring the different departments at Carlisle Regional Medical Center to gain insight about their medical science interests. Then, the five-week intensive study explores the role of the nursing assistant and provides training in the essentials of patient care. Classes meet Monday through Friday from 12:00 - 3:00.  Students can expect to complete clinical hours at local nursing homes during after school and weekend hours. Daily homework assignments are an essential part of the course. Students who successfully pass the state exam and are 18 years of age can expect to be gainfully employed as CNAs while still attending high school. After the class is completed, students will volunteer to earn the internship credit.  Students are responsible for all tuition and fees, estimated at approximately $895. Interested students should see Mrs. Consevage for an application by June 30 for the 1st semester and November 30 for the 2nd semester.

EMT:  The EMT program offered through the CAIU Partnership and Harrisburg Area Community College.   Students must complete an application process by December 1st.  The course begins in mid January.  The nineteen week study will include the overall roles and responsibilities of the EMT; general anatomy and physiology; assessment of injuries and illnesses; cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR); medical emergencies; lifting and moving of patients; automated External Defibrillation (AED); assessment of the scene; transportation of patients to the emergency department and much more.  Classes will meet every Monday-Friday from 12:30-3:30 at the Cumberland-Goodwill's site in Carlisle during the 2nd semester.  Daily homework assignments are an essential part of the course. Tuition for the EMT program is approximately $825.00.  Tuition includes pocket mask, stethoscope, and two uniform shirts.  It also includes the student liability coverage premium.  Students are responsible for purchasing the textbook prior to the first day of EMT class.  Interested students should see Mrs. Consevage for an application.
